US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” following a night of U.S.-mediated negotiations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
“After a long night of U.S.-mediated talks, India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries for choosing Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following a series of cross-border missile exchanges that led to heavy casualties and widespread damage to military infrastructure on both sides.
The Indian military had earlier confirmed losses at multiple airbases, including Pathankot, Udhampur, Bhuj, and Adam Port, after retaliatory strikes by Pakistan.
There has been no immediate official confirmation from either the Indian or Pakistani governments regarding the terms of the ceasefire.
However, diplomatic sources in Washington and Islamabad told that the U.S. facilitated a series of urgent backchannel communications overnight, urging both sides to “step back from the brink.”
Pakistan launches Operation Bunyan-un-Marsus
Earlier today, in retaliation to India’s recent barrage of attacks, Pakistan has launched a counterattack on India, named Operation Bunyan-un-Marsus, with missiles.
Security sources say Pakistan is currently conducting a counter-attack against India on hard military targets, as at least three ‘Fatah 2’ missiles have been fired at Indian targets. Currently, the Pakistan military is targeting multiple targets all across India. As per details, Indian BrahMos missile storage site in Beas has been knocked out in the first instance.
Furthermore, airfields in Udhampur, Adampur, Suratgarh, Sirsa, Bathinda, Akhnoor, Halwara and Pathankot have also been destroyed, as per security sources. They said all the bases from where Pakistan was attacked are being targeted. The most damage so far has been done by the ‘Fatah 2’ missile.
