Nita Ambani responds to criticism of Anant Ambani’s grand wedding |

India’s richest person, Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita’s youngest son, Anant’s wedding to Radhika Merchant in 2024 was surely the wedding of the year! From the two lavish pre-weddings to the extravagant wedding in Mumbai to the high-profile celebrity guests from across the world– Anant and Radhika’s wedding was what dreams are made of. However, considering the crores of rupees that were spent on the grand wedding, some people also criticised the Ambanis for spurlging too much and setting the wrong example for big-fat-Indian weddings. Some others even criticised and said that the money could have been used for charity.
In this context, Haslinda Amin from Bloomberg Television recently asked Nita Ambani- Chairperson and Founder of the Reliance Foundation, about the backlash on the extravagant wedding in an interview. “There were some critics out there talking about how ostentatious the lavishness of the wedding. Does it bother you when you hear those criticisms?” Amin asked Nita Ambani.

Journalist confronts Nita Ambani on Anant Ambani's wedding: 'Why such lavish displays of wealth in an unequal India?

In a recent interview, Nita Ambani addressed criticism of her son Anant Ambani’s extravagant wedding, emphasising that every parent wants the best for their child.

To this, Mrs Ambani replied, “You know every parent wants to do their best for their children’s wedding. And that’s what we did in all this.” Elaborating this, she further added, “I think it was a made in India brand that came out. I am happy that I was able to kind of bring to the center-stage our Indian traditions, Indian heritage, and Indian culture.”
Talking about the wedding, Amin then asked Mrs Ambani to share a heart-touching moment from Anant-Radhika’s wedding. Replying to it, Nita Ambani said, “My son Anant has been fighting obesity from a very young age because of his asthma and he went up on a stage as a confident bridegroom, he told me ‘Mom, it’s not what I am physically. It’s what my heart is’. And I saw him holding his life partner’s hand, I think that’s what was the most touching feeling.”

Radhika and Anant Ambani

For the unversed, the Ambanis had hosted a lavish three-day pre-wedding festivities in Jamnagar, Gujarat for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant last year. The pre-wedding in Jamnagar was attended by the who’s who of the tech, political, sports, and Bollywood world. The second pre-wedding for Anant and Radhika was held on a cruise in Europe. And finally, the much-awaited wedding was held at the Jio World Convention in Mumbai on July 12, 2024. It was a three-day lavish wedding and it was attended by celebrities, billionaires, politicians and the like. On July 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Shubh Ashirwad event wherein he met the newlywed Ambani couple and blessed them for their married life.
It’s been a few months since Anant and Radhika have been married, however, people still talk about the opulence and grandeur of their wedding festivities.
