FIR filed over Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks

Listen to article

An FIR has been filed in India’s Assam state against podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, and three others over controversial remarks made during the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’.

The FIR was registered following a complaint by Alok Boruah from Guwahati, who accused the remarks of causing harm to public decency.

The case involves charges under different Indian acts and related provisions concerning obscene acts.

In Mumbai, the police are conducting an inquiry, but no FIR has been filed yet. This follows complaints from two local lawyers, Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, who argued that the comments were offensive and violated decency standards.

The police visited the Habitat building in Mumbai’s Khar area where the show was filmed for further investigation.

Ranveer Allahbadia, known for his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, has since apologised for his comments, admitting they were inappropriate.

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi have weighed in, with the latter calling for stricter regulation on such content.

The controversy has sparked public debate about the limits of free speech and the responsibility of content creators.

Allahbadia’s apology video was shared online, where he acknowledged his lapse in judgment and accepted responsibility for his actions.
