The cosmetic surgery landscape continues to evolve, with 2025 expected to bring even greater integration of technology, sustainability, and holistic aesthetic practices.
In recent years, the world of cosmetic surgery has witnessed an unprecedented surge in popularity, driven largely by the influence of celebrities. The year 2024 was no exception, with trends set by high-profile personalities shaping patients’ choices globally. To delve deeper into this fascinating shift, we spoke to two of India’s leading plastic surgeons, Dr Rajat Gupta, National Secretary, Indian Association of Aesthetic of Plastic Surgeons (IAAPS), and Dr Priya Bansal, a board-certified plastic surgeon, Skinnovation Clinics, New-Delhi. Together, they shed light on how celebrity culture has redefined cosmetic surgery preferences and inspired patients to embark on transformative journeys.
Why Celebrity Influence Matters
The aspirational appeal of celebrities is undeniable. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube allow fans to follow their favourite stars closely, often noticing every transformation, no matter how subtle. Dr. Gupta explains, “Celebrities are not just setting trends in fashion or lifestyle anymore. They’re influencing ideals of beauty. Patients come to us referencing specific celebrity features, whether it’s Angelina Jolie’s sharp jawline, Priyanka Chopra’s refined nose, or Kim Kardashian’s hourglass figure.”
The influence is not limited to global stars. Indian celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, and even male icons such as Hrithik Roshan and Rajkumar Rao, have shaped aesthetic preferences domestically. “Patients frequently ask for subtle enhancements that mimic the natural elegance of these personalities,” adds Dr. Bansal.
Key Trends in Cosmetic Surgery in 2024
Natural-Looking Results
Unlike the overt transformations of the past, 2024 saw patients gravitating towards procedures that enhance their natural features. Techniques like rhinoplasty with a preservation approach, micro-fat grafting, and facial skin tightening gained traction.
Dr Gupta highlights, “Patients now prefer subtle changes that improve their confidence without being obvious. The goal is to look like the best version of themselves rather than someone else.”
Facial Contouring Boom
Inspired by the sculpted looks of celebrities like Deepika Padukone and Bella Hadid, facial contouring procedures like jawline augmentation, chin enhancement, and buccal fat removal became hugely popular. “Facial contouring aligns perfectly with the natural look trend. It offers refined results while maintaining authenticity,” explains Dr. Bansal.
Minimally Invasive Procedures
Botox and dermal fillers continued to dominate in 2024, but advanced techniques in thread lifts and facelifts offered longer-lasting and more pronounced results. Celebrities openly endorsing these treatments have normalized the conversation around “lunchtime procedures.”
Body Contouring Innovations
With the rise of gym selfies and fitness influencers, procedures like liposuction with body contouring and abdominal etching have gained momentum. Men and women alike are turning to surgeons for sculpted physiques that mirror celebrity workout results, often unattainable through exercise alone.
Male Cosmetic Surgery
A growing number of male patients inspired by Bollywood and Hollywood actors have opted for gynecomastia surgery, jawline sculpting, and 6-pack abs surgery. “Male cosmetic surgery is no longer a taboo subject. Celebrities like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have made grooming and enhancements acceptable,” notes Dr. Gupta.
The Role of Technology in 2024’s Trends
Advancements in technology have made cosmetic surgery safer, more accessible, and more efficient. Techniques like VASER liposuction are now staples in state-of-the-art clinics. Dr. Bansal points out, “Patients often research extensively before consultations, and they’re excited about innovations that minimize downtime.”
Dr. Gupta adds, “The use of AI-driven simulations allows patients to visualize their results, aligning expectations and improving satisfaction rates.”
Ethics in Celebrity-Inspired Surgery
While the impact of celebrity culture is undeniable, both surgeons emphasize the importance of ethical practices. “Our responsibility as plastic surgeons is to ensure patients have realistic expectations and understand that beauty is deeply personal,” stresses Dr. Bansal.
Dr. Gupta echoes this sentiment, saying, “We must ensure that patients seek enhancements for themselves, not to imitate someone else. Surgery should empower them to feel confident, not conform to a fleeting trend.”
Empowering Through Education
Educating patients about procedures is central to both surgeons’ practice. In 2024, clinics saw a shift towards patient empowerment through workshops, webinars, and social media Q&A sessions. “An informed patient is a happy patient,” says Dr. Gupta.
Dr. Bansal elaborates, “We make it a priority to explain the pros, cons, and alternatives of every procedure, ensuring patients make choices aligned with their personal goals.”
Looking Ahead: Cosmetic Surgery in 2025
The cosmetic surgery landscape continues to evolve, with 2025 expected to bring even greater integration of technology, sustainability, and holistic aesthetic practices. Dr. Gupta predicts, “We will see a demand for treatments that provide youthful, natural aesthetics while enhancing skin texture and tone”.
Dr. Bansal concludes, “As trends come and go, the enduring lesson is that confidence and individuality are always in style.”
