Emilia Perez star reveals ‘shocking’ truth about Selena Gomez slap scene

Emilia Perez star recalls Selena Gomez ‘slap’ scene

Emilia Perez star Karla Sofía Gascón  is reflecting on an iconic moment from the award-winning film, as she opens up about the Selena Gomez ‘slap’ scene.

During an exclusive interview with Metro, the 52-year-old telenovela actor, who portrayed the role of Emilia in the Jacques Audiard directorial, believed that slapping Selena would have changed the film’s perspective.

Recounting an instance from the film, she told the outlet, “We had a lot of arguments and discussions with Jacques to get him to remove [the slap] from the script because if he had left it like that then we would have lost the character of Emilia that we had been building so far.”

The actress said that any such gesture would have changed the character’s impact, as she further went on to add, “She would never have become the saint she became by the end of the film. It would have changed the meaning completely, and the martyr would have ended up being Jessi.

“I love that scene because it’s the moment where you see Emilia change from pretending she was okay with everything to breaking. It’s a marvellous, marvellous scene.”

For the unversed, the Spanish star rose to fame after moving to Mexico, and went on to win several prestigious awards, including Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, Best Actress at the European Film Awards, and a Golden Globe nomination.
